East Campus Parking Garage

The Graduate Student Housing Project will begin fencing off parking lots that will be utilized for the construction of the new facility starting on Monday, August 7, 2017. The following lots will be permanently closed: 109, 113, 114, and 115.

All cars must be removed from lots 109, 113, 114, and 115 by 11:59 pm on Sunday, August 6, 2017. Failure to remove your vehicle by this time may result in it being cited and/ or towed at the owner’s expense.

The orange hashed areas on the map below will no longer be available for parking starting on Monday, August 7, 2017.

The following lots will remain for parking in East Campus: 35, 106, 110, 111, 112, 117, 119, and 121. Some of these lots require an “A” or “F” permit and not a “C” permit.

We anticipate Phase I of the East Campus Garage to open at the week of August 21, 2017 prior to the start of the upcoming school year. This will add 1,200 parking spaces to the East Campus parking inventory. We will have ECG permits available online shortly.

24th street Constuction

Due to the 24th street construction, 2 loading zone spaces, 2 ADA spaces, and 16 F-16 spaces will be eliminated from August 9th to August 25th, 2017. See the map below for details. 24th street will remain two way traffic.24th street construction

Speedway Mall Project

The Speedway Mall project wrapped up the first and second phases and began the next phase in mid-December 2016. The current phase moves the project northward on Speedway and affects the intersection of 24th Street and Speedway. Vehicle access and parking are affected as follows:

  • 24th Street is closed between the F16 lot entrance near W.R. Woolrich Labs (WRW) and Speedway. There is no through-traffic on 24th between San Jacinto Street and Inner Campus Drive/Guadalupe Street. San Jacinto traffic turning west on 24th cannot continue past the F16 lot entrance.
  • The gate arms on 24th Street are closed at all times. Only emergency vehicles and carts have access between Inner Campus Drive and Speedway.
  • The gate arm at Speedway and Dean Keeton Street is open to provide access to ADA spaces. The intersection of 24th and Speedway is blocked, so vehicles entering Speedway from Dean Keeton must turn around to exit to Dean Keeton.
  • Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) converted some parking spaces on Speedway north of 24th into loading zones (LZ) to allow deliveries to buildings south of 24th on Speedway.

If the dates, times, or project scope of this phase change, PTS will notify campus.
NOTE: Information about Speedway Mall and other capital projects on campus is available throughout the year on the capital projects Construction Advisory web site. Visit the Construction Advisory maps page, and scroll down to the Speedway Mall project to see maps of pedestrian and vehicle routes as well as plans for future construction in the area. This website will be updated at key intervals throughout the project.


Utilities and Energy Management (UEM) will be installing a new sanitary sewer system starting at 6 am on Monday, April 3, 2017. As part of this work, 24th Street will be closed completely to traffic from the PTS kiosk at 24th Street and Whitis to just west of University/Inner Campus Dr (ICD). The sidewalks will remain open. While 24th Street is closed, the one-way portion of Whitis in front of Hogg Memorial Auditorium (HMA) will be reversed, and traffic will access ICD from 24th Street via Whitis. Traffic exiting the ICD area can either continue around ICD to exit onto Guadalupe as normal or standard-size passenger vehicles may access Dean Keeton via University by utilizing the drive between Gordon-White Building (GWB) and Gearing Hall (GEA).
** Box trucks and other large vehicles will be required to drive around ICD to exit onto Guadalupe. The drive between GWB and GEA is too narrow for non-passenger vehicles.
** No “O” spaces will be removed. However, “O” Permit holders will be required to back into the row of spaces by the Turtle Pond.
** The ADA spaces on 24th Street will be relocated to the K spaces on the northeast and northwest corners of Whitis and 24th Street in front of GWB and Littlefield Home (LFH).
