Geofencing to Govern Scooter Accelerations on Campus Begins March 26

Dear UT Community,

The University of Texas at Austin prioritizes the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors. In addition to recent recommendations by a campus workgroup that have been implemented by Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) to create parameters around scooter use on campus, the university has been working closely with scooter companies to govern scooter acceleration as precautionary measures designed for the safety of everyone on our main campus.

  • Student S Permit - Spring to Summer Renewals start 4/3/19

SURE Walk Time Change

Dear Longhorns,

SURE Walk operating hours will be changing due to Daylight Saving Time. The spring hours of operation will be 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. This will take effect on March 10th. Additionally, SURE Walk will be operating during spring break.

If you are on campus late and have concerns about your safety getting home, all students, faculty, and staff can request a SURE Walk. Two SURE Walkers may accompany you on your walk home or provide a complimentary cart or car ride, depending on service area.

Scooter Parking Zones Ready for Use

Dear UT Community,

Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) has created newly designated scooter parking zones throughout campus ready for immediate use. Along with parking near bicycle racks, the designated scooter parking areas and the bike racks are the only locations scooters should be parked.

PCL Bike Rack Relocation

Jan. 30, 2019

Due to an ongoing construction project bike racks along Speedway Plaza near the east side of Perry Castañeda Library have been relocated. The racks have been relocated in around the Jester and 21st Street area. These should remain during the entirity of the project.

Michael Shaw promotes student awareness, optimism while directing traffic

At the intersection of 24th Street and Whitis Avenue, not even the melodious chimes of the Tower bells, the honks of passing vehicles or the chatter of rushing students can drown out Michael Shaw’s booming voice.   

Shaw, UT Empowerment Program Ambassador and Parking Enforcement Assistant, adds to his daily traffic regulation routine through high-fives, words of motivation and friendly conversations with passersby. At various traffic kiosks across campus, Shaw has channeled positivity into his work since 2011.

TxDOT to Conduct Campus Traffic Survey Sept. 27

Please be advised that on Thursday, September 27th a traffic study sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be conducted on the UT-Austin campus. The study will collect data on the amount and patterns of traffic generated by the university. To collect this information, study personnel wearing vests and name tags will be located on campus counting vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles and inviting individuals to participate in a brief survey about their travel to and from UT. The surveys are random, voluntary, and only take about 1 to 2 minutes to complete.

Commercial Scooter Dismount Zones for Home Football Game Days

Attention Campus Community:

Football season is upon us and PTS would like to inform all students, faculty, and staff who utilize commercial scooters like Bird and Lime, that scooters will not be allowed to travel beyond the checkpoints on game days. There will be a designated scooter drop off zone near each checkpoint for all scooters that guest will be able to access at any time during and after the game.
