One of Texas’s most anticipated races returns to Austin this Sunday, January 18, as the Spurs Austin International Half Marathon brings thousands of runners, spectators, and race-day excitement to areas on and around campus. Formerly known as the 3M Half Marathon, this beloved event continues a more than 30-year tradition of showcasing Austin’s energy, community spirit, and love of sport.
To help ensure a smooth and enjoyable race weekend for everyone, please review the following parking and traffic restrictions that will be in effect beginning Saturday and continuing through race day:
Parking Restrictions
Parking in the areas listed below will be restricted beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17. All vehicles, including motorcycles and University vehicles, must be removed from these locations by 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, January 17:
- 21st Street (Speedway to University Ave.)
- Speedway (Dean Keeton St. to 24th Street), including F31 spaces and ADA spaces
These areas will remain restricted until 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18.
Traffic Restrictions
Street Closures
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday, January 18, the following streets will be closed to traffic while runners are in the street. As the race progresses, roads will reopen on a rolling basis, with all streets expected to be open by 2 p.m. Please note that vehicles parked within the closure area may not be accessible until streets reopen.
- Dean Keeton St. (San Jacinto Blvd. to Speedway)
- Speedway (Dean Keeton St. to 21st St.)
- 21st St. (Speedway to University Ave.)
- Northbound lane of University Ave. (21st St. to Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.)
- Eastbound lanes of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. (Guadalupe St. to Trinity St.)
- Westbound lanes of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. (Red River St. to Trinity St.)
- San Jacinto Blvd. (Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. to 15th St.)
Street closures are subject to change at the discretion of safety and traffic control.
A, F, and Brazos Garage (BRG) Permit Holders
Access in and out of Lot 53, Lot 56, and Brazos Garage will be limited on Sunday, Jan. 18, from as early as 7 a.m. until no later than 2 p.m. Officers in the area will be directing vehicular traffic.
To provide uninterrupted parking during this time:
- Brazos Garage permit holders will have alternative access to Health Center Garage.
- Lot 56 permit holders will have alternative access to Speedway Garage.
