Reminder: Campus Traffic and Parking Disruptions (May 7–9)

This is a reminder that Commencement ceremonies will take place Thursday, May 7 through Saturday, May 9, with events occurring across campus and the university-wide ceremony on Saturday evening at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium.

If you plan to be on or near campus, please prepare for significant traffic congestion, street closures, and delays throughout the three-day period.

Parking Reminder

Most University garages will be open and free to park in from Thursday at 5 a.m. through Saturday at 11:59 p.m.

Updated Garage Access

The following garages will operate under normal access restrictions (updated from our previous message):

  • Conference Center Garage (CCG)
  • Nueces Garage (NUG)
  • Rowling Hall Garage (RHG)
  • Guadalupe Garage (GUG)

Street Closure Highlights

Closures will be in effect daily, with the most significant impacts on Friday and Saturday. Key closures include:

  • Robert Dedman Dr.
  • Clyde Littlefield Dr.
  • San Jacinto Blvd.
  • DeLoss Dodds Wy.
  • 21st St. (eastbound only)
  • Trinity St. (Saturday only)

ADA Parking & Shuttle Service

  • Guests with ADA placards are encouraged to park at East Campus Garage (ECG); parking is free throughout Commencement
  • Shuttles will run between ECG and major ceremony venues, with expanded service on Saturday
  • Additional assistance, including accessible vehicles and golf carts, will be available near major venues

Plan Ahead

  • Allow extra time for travel to and from campus
  • Expect delays when exiting garages
  • If traffic is backed up in the garage, try an alternate exit:
    • San Jacinto Garage: Levels 1 & 3
    • Manor Garage: Levels 1 & 4
    • Trinity Garage: Levels 1 & 4
  • If you are attending Commencement events, consider arriving early and staying later
  • Avoid driving through campus during peak periods if possible

UTPD and the Austin Police Department will be on-site managing traffic to support a safe and efficient Commencement experience.
