Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) is here to help you get around campus safely, conveniently, and sustainably. As the fall semester gets underway, the following are important updates and reminders about transportation options and safety resources available to students, faculty, and staff.
“Walk. Don’t Ride.” Pedestrian Friendly Zone Now in Effect
The campus core Pedestrian Friendly Zone is now in effect. Personal electric vehicles (PEVs) must be dismounted — not ridden — within the area inside San Jacinto Boulevard to Guadalupe Street and 24th Street to 21st Street, including Speedway. Please walk your wheels through this area. If you’re using a self-powered wheeled device, please go slowly, be mindful of pedestrians, and always obey the rules of the road. Thank you for doing your part to create a safer campus for everyone.
Get Around Campus and Beyond
PTS and our campus transportation partners offer a variety of options to help you get where you need to go.
UT Shuttles provide free service with a valid UT ID Sunday through Friday, including two campus circulator routes (640 and 642) and five routes connecting campus with popular student housing areas. UT students, faculty and staff also have fare-free access to nearly 100 CapMetro routes throughout Austin and beyond, including Rail and Rapid services.
PTS Connect is a free, PTS-operated van shuttle service with fixed routes and schedules connecting key UT locations. A new LBJ Shuttle now provides service between Garrison Hall and the LBJ Library from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The LBJ Shuttle joins existing routes serving the Dell Pediatric Research Institute, J. J. Pickle Research Campus, and Student Services Building.
PTS Pickup provides free, curb-to-curb cart transportation around campus Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. If you see a PTS Pickup driver, feel free to wave them down and let them know where you’re headed. PTS Pickup also offers ADA-accessible van transportation.
PTS Shop Shuttle provides free, round-trip transportation between campus and the grocery store on select Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations are required.
Stay Safe After Dark
Campus life doesn’t clock out just because the sun goes down. Whether you’re studying, working, or hanging out with friends, these resources aim to make your journey safer.
UT Night Rides offers Lyft rides home seven nights a week, from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Use the Lyft app and your free credits for rides from main campus, J.J. Pickle Research Campus, or Dell Pediatric Research Institute.
Sure Walk provides complimentary late-night cart and car rides, as well as an accompanied walking service, seven days a week from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Call 512-232-9255 to request a ride or walk.
West Campus Ambassadors can accompany you to your destination in West Campus. They’re available until 3 a.m. Monday through Wednesday and 24 hours a day, Thursday through Sunday. Call or text 512-429-3278.
CapMetro’s Courtesy Stop Program allows riders to request a drop-off between regular stops after 9 p.m. at a safe, well-lit location along eligible UT Shuttle, CapMetro Bus and CapMetro Rapid routes.
